Lineberry Factory or Railroad Cart

Lineberry Factory or Railroad Cart

If your looking for an early industrial look with a blend of truly distressed wood and that screams awesome, then look no further than the early industrial factory carts. Many people refer to them as Railroad carts due to the fact they were used a lot in early train depots for transporting baggage.

We purchase this one in antique store and knew when we saw it that we would regret it if we didn’t take it home. Although there are other companies which manufactured similar carts, we find that the Lineberry company produced our favorite.

Although built in the early to mid 1900’s many are still very sturdy today. We were even told that they are still in use in some applications. The original advertisements claim they can carry up to 2000 pounds. No doubt that required some quality parts, durable and tough wood and quality construction.

The iron castors and hardware is one of our favorite parts about it and believe it or not it still rolls very smoothly. The squeaks, the clinks and whatever sounds it makes as it moves reminds us of another time and place where men where as tough as the nails in this old cart.

This ones wood has been preserved and that is probably the last thing that will be done to it while it’s in our possession. The wood is old, rustic, and fabulous and screams industrial. The factory logo adds to the flavor and charm of this old railroad cart.

Sometime in it’s past it appears that someone painted something like a red barrel on it. The red over-spray adds to the character and history of this old cart. As we researched other factory carts like this one, we found that lot of them had similar markings to adorn them.

While nothing beats the original carts, it’s also possible to find some reproduction of these old pieces.
